Decisive victory
Barcelona began its LaLiga title defence with a 5-0 win over Elche on Sunday. Captain Raphinha opened the scoreline in the 14th minute after a foul by Victor Chust inside the box, converting a penalty. Karim Adeyemi, on his debut for the club, marked his first goal in added time before the break, capitalising on a pass from Raphinha and beating the goalkeeper. Raphinha added his second goal in the 67th minute from outside the box after a pass from Anthony Gordon.

Anthony Gordon, who came on as a substitute, provided two assists: one in the 71st minute, when he carried the ball from his own half and set up Fermin Lopez for a tap-in, and another in the 79th minute, when the midfielder turned past his marker on the edge of the box and fired home. The final goal came at the 79th minute with a shot from Fermin Lopez after a pass from Anthony Gordon.
