Facundo Buonanotte has been assigned the number 10 jersey by Elche CF, a move that showcases the club's expectations for his return to Albion. The Argentine is looking to recover from a frustrating season with Chelsea and Leeds, where he struggled to establish himself as a regular starter and now fights for a place in coach Fabian Hurzeler's plans.
Elche has prepared everything for Buonanotte's return, including the recording of a motivational message by former player Marcelo Trobbiani. This latter played as number 10 in 159 matches with Elche and also represented Boca Juniors. Trobbiani hails from a city near Rosario, Buonanotte's hometown.
Trobiani had his moment of glory at the 1986 World Cup, when he was Diego Maradona's understudy for Argentina and briefly played in the final. In an iconic moment, Trobbiani sent a back heel to help Argentina secure a 3-2 victory over West Germany.
In his message, Trobbiani said: 'This number. The green stripe. The ten. Wearing this number with Elche isn't for just anybody. Now it's down to you to make your history, to feel this jersey and defend these colors. Facu, from someone who knows what it means to wear the number 10, I want to welcome you. Make this your moment. Make the ten make history again'.
Buonanotte has two years left on his Albion contract and seems to be running out of time to make an impact at the Amex Stadium. At just 21 years old, a good season in LaLiga could ignite his European career.
