Alejandro Iturbe saves the day for Elche CF

The Madrid-born goalkeeper is shining in the preseason and is covering for the theoretical first-choice goalkeeper, Matías Dituro. Aware that this could be a great opportunity, Iturbe is safeguarding the green-and-white goal and avoiding, in some cases, receiving more goals in friendly matches.

Elche CF's goalkeeping situation

The club only has two goalkeepers in the first team and until a new one can be signed, Iturbe is giving it his all to have more presence on the green pitch week after week in official competition. Against Córdoba, he didn't have the starting lineup and the explosion that Umaru had with the two goals, but he was crucial for Elche to close out the fourth friendly match with a draw.

The arrival of new players

The club's idea is to acquire another goalkeeper during this summer market, but for now, they have to move forward with what they have available, and that's where Iturbe's opportunity opens up. There are only a few more weeks until the debut in Riazor and the team is still not complete with vacancies in several positions. Fer Niño made his debut as a new face and after the striker, more reinforcements are expected.

The team's adaptation

Germán Valera, Elche CF's coach, acknowledged not having started the fourth friendly match well, but believes that the team has reacted well and is adapting to the new system. The figure of Martín Anselmi, Elche's left-back, has been clear and has only spoken positively about the team and its new coach.
